What is VAT? An article from the European Taxation and Customs union explains VAT like this: “The Value Added Tax, or VAT, in the European Union is a general, broadly based consumption tax assessed on the value added to goods and services. It applies more or less to all goods and services that are bought and sold for use or consumption in the European Union.” To see the complete article, click HERE.
I’m not an EU resident. Why am I being charged VAT for my race in the EU? VAT is applied to all registrations and products for events located in the EU - even if you're from a country outside the EU.
Why isn’t VAT being applied based on my country of residence? VAT is always calculated based on the country in which the event takes place.
If I'm registering for an event in the EU, what do I pay VAT on? VAT is charged for the cost of registration, any products purchased during registration, and the ChronoTrack Service Fee*. The tax rate is calculated at the percentage designated for the country in which the event takes place. *Some events elect to pay the Service Fee on behalf of the athlete. In this case, you would not pay the Service Fee OR the associated VAT Tax.
How am I informed of VAT tax DURING registration? The Registration form will show the VAT amount below each Registration Choice and as you progress through the form.
The running total on the right will also show VAT for each item in your registration order including your Race, any extra Products or services offered by the event, and the Service Fee* (see the item above for more on the Service Fee) .
How am I informed of VAT tax AFTER registration? Once your registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation email, and your Order Summary section will show the amount paid for each registration item plus VAT fee for each.
Clicking the Receipt Details button will launch a new tab with a detailed VAT Invoice.
